how to use this website

This website is a blog, rather than the usual website. You can post comments, and we can post updates. It's kind of like a journal. We recommend that you check back every once in a while in case some info is added or changed, or you can just enter your email in the "Subscribe via email" box to the left and you'll receive an email every time we update the blog. We don't foresee any big changes, but we wanted to cover our bases! We will have a link any time there is a big change rather than discreetly editing something that is currently posted.

On the left side of this page, each post (like a list of journal entries) is listed. You can click on the post title and read the post in its entirety, and you can post comments. For those of you local or familiar with the area, if you would like to throw in other things to do or have any likes/dislikes of those places listed, feel free to comment.

If you have any questions about how this website works, feel free to email me directly at ajissi@gmail.com.

I hope this finds everyone well!

transportation

Transportation

Air: Fly into Nashville International Airport (BNA). There are nonstop flights from Baltimore (BWI) on Southwest for those coming from Northern Virginia or Maryland.

Rental Car: Nashville's airport has quite a few rental car companies located onsite. If you stay in the Hilton Suites Brentwood there is a shuttle at the hotel, but it does not go to or from the airport. We highly recommend you rent a vehicle while in the area. Nashville's downtown transportation system is not very good or widespread. Of course feel free to ask us who else may be arriving the same time/day and we will do what we can to help you find others you may be able to carpool with, whether it be driving from Northern Virginia or flying into Nashville's airport and then renting a vehicle.

things to do

Nashville Skyline

Restaurants: There are thousands of places to eat in/around Franklin and Nashville for every budget and food type. It is best to ask at the hotel's front desk (or anyone in the wedding party who lives in the area). We're happy to give suggestions!

In Franklin (just south of Brentwood):
Franklin, Tennessee is included in the book 1,000 Places To See in the United States and Canada Before You Die.

Carmike Thoroughbred Cinemas: 633 Frazier Drive, Franklin, TN 37065
This is a nice movie theater but we recommend ordering tickets through Fandango (http://www.fandango.com) or getting tickets a few hours in advance because many movies sell out quickly.

Downtown Franklin: 137 3rd Ave N, Franklin, TN 37064
A 15 block historic district. It has clothing stores, antique shops, restaurants, art galleries and elegant shopping. Go to http://www.historicfranklin.com for additional information.

The Factory at Franklin: 230 Franklin Rd, Franklin, TN 37064
The Factory at Franklin is comprised of 11 depression-era buildings, totaling 250,000 sq. ft., that housed four factories during its industrial lifetime. The buildings were originally built in 1929 for Allen Manufacturing Company, stove manufacturers. During the Great Depression, the buildings became occupied by the Dortch Stove Company (1932-1955), Magic Chef (1955-1959), and Jamison Bedding Company (1962-1991). The Factory is currently being renovated, maintaining as much of the old factory look as possible, into a dining, retail, and entertainment center containing restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, distinct retail stores, a culinary arts center, theatre, farmer's market, and much more. For more information, go to http://www.factoryatfranklin.com, or by calling (615) 791-1777.

Cool Springs Galleria (mall): 1800 Galleria Blvd, Franklin, TN 37067
This mall has five department stores (Macy's, Dillard's, Parisian, Sears, and JCPenney), over 165 specialty shops, and a 500-seat food court. The mall's website is http://www.coolspringsgalleria.com, and their phone number is (615) 771-2128.

Historic Carnton Plantation:
1345 Carnton Ln, Franklin, TN 37064
It served as the largest field hospital in the area during the bloodiest Civil War Battle (and one of the shortest at five hours in duration), The Battle of Franklin. Visitors to the plantation while a private residence include James K. Polk and Andrew Jackson. On the site includes a cemetery of 1,500 Confederates. It is the largest privately owned military cemetery in the nation. Admission prices, hours of operation, and other information are available at http://www.carnton.org, or by calling (615) 794-0903.

Natchez Trace Parkway:
5430 Pinewood Rd, Franklin, TN 37064
The 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway commemorates an ancient trail that connected southern portions of the Mississippi River, through Alabama, to salt licks in today's central Tennessee. Today, visitors can experience this National Scenic Byway and All-American Road through driving, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and camping. This historic road ends just outside downtown Nashville. More information is available at http://www.nps.gov/natr, or by calling Visitor Information at (800) 305-7417.

Drive around
some awesome neighborhoods! Brentwood and Franklin have some very amazing mansions in the area. All you need is a map.

In Nashville:
We suggest going to http://www.tripadvisor.com and looking up Nashville for a more in depth list of great things to do, but here are some options.
Note: If you are going somewhere in downtown Nashville you will pay about $10-$20 to park. Please remember to bring cash as well as a credit card, or be willing to drive to a few different parking areas as some lots only take credit and others only take cash.

The Parthenon:
25th at West End Ave Centennial Park, Nashville, TN 37201
The only full-size replica of the Grecian Parthenon in the world. For admission prices and days/times of operation (and other information), go to http://www.nashville.gov/parthenon or call (615) 862-8431. You can opt to not pay the admission but walk around Centennial Park and see the outside of the building for free. It is not in walking distance from downtown Nashville but there is free parking.

NashTrash Tours:
900 8th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37208
By far the coolest downtown tour you can do. In a heated bus, too! The guided bus tour is a couple hours long and the NashTrash ladies are hilarious, but a bit… adult. Tours can fill up fast, and you must reserve your spot. We suggest if you want to do this while in Nashville you make a reservation ASAP. Go to http://www.nashtrash.com or call (615) 226-7300 for more info.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum:
222 Fifth Avenue S, Nashville, TN 37203
This museum, which is quite large and may take a few hours to go through, teaches about country music's history in the Music City. It includes many "artifacts" like Dolly Parton's clothes and musical instruments used by the likes of Ray Charles and Willie Nelson. Admission prices and other information are available at http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com/site/ or by calling (615) 416-2001.

Ryman Auditorium:
116 Fifth Ave N, Nashville, TN 37219
The original location of the Grand Ole Opry and is one of the most important locations in Music City's history (in our opinion). There are different tours available for different prices and this information is at http://www.ryman.com or (615) 889-3060.

RCA Studio B:

See where Elvis recorded while in Nashville! It's also used by Belmont University music industry students as an educational recording studio. Located on Music Row, you can do the tour through the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (pay for a bus tour departing from the museum with a guide), or you can drive down Music Row. Music Row is 16th Avenue in downtown Nashville. For more information, see the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum section.

Music Row:
16th Ave, Nashville, TN
The headquarters of Music City's music industry. Either take the RCS Studio B tour, or drive down the street. We suggest you read up a bit on the history of the music industry here otherwise it's not very interesting (or just ask Chris!).

Broadway
(where you'll find the Honky Tonks, the "main drag" of downtown Nashville):
The main road through downtown Nashville is lined with infamous bars such as Tootsies, and our favorite dueling pianos bar, The Big Bang. All bars/restaurants in Tennessee are non-smoking, or if they are smoking they are 21+. Some have covers (amount you have to pay to enter) and some are free. Jack's BarBQue has great food. There are many restaurants within walking distance. From Broadway, you're also in walking distance to the Ryman, the Schermerhorn, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Walking Bridge, and 2nd Avenue (a street like Broadway; where you'll find Coyote Ugly, the Wildhorse and B. B. King's among other music venues and restaurants).

Schermerhorn Symphony Center:
1 Symphony Place, Nashville, TN 37201
(Where Adrienne worked when she first moved to Nashville)
This building is gorgeous and only a couple years old. They have free tours (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 1 PM) and if you would like a tour of the inside of the building we suggest you give them a call, as volunteers give the tours and sometimes tours are cancelled. There is a lot to see on the outside of the building as well. There is a Canadian Brass (and Nashville Symphony) concert on December 11, but there are no concerts the weekend of the wedding. For general information, go to http://www.nashvillesymphony.org. For tour information, call (615) 687-6580 or go to http://www.nashvillesymphony.org/main.taf?p=17,7.

Room Rates: $95/night for 1 king bed suite;
$105/night for 2 double beds suite

We highly recommend staying at this hotel since the reception is here, it is a convenient 5-minute drive from the ceremony location, and we have a block of rooms at a discounted rate.

Please book from our website link (above) for the group rate, or call and say you are with the Issi/Scott Wedding. We absolutely love this hotel and encourage you to stay here so everyone is at a central location at a great place for a great price. We strongly encourage carpooling to the ceremony location due to very limited parking at the church, and there will be a small break between the ceremony and reception so you will be able to go back to your room for a few minutes. All rooms are two-room suites featuring a bedroom with one king or two double beds and a spacious living room with a microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, iron/board, two separate cable access color TV's and two dual line phones, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. All suites have full-size sofa sleeper in living room. Each suite also has a huge, residential size bathroom. Breakfast is not complimentary and the buffet is not very cheap but is amazing. There is an on-site restaurant, The Porch Café.

This is a great choice for those that want to be in the midst of downtown Nashville. There is FREE parking, which will save you $10-$20 per downtown trip.
